Walks through the largest urban park in North America: trails, nature, and family adventures

In September 2024 and again in August 2025, we set out to explore Rouge National Urban Park — the largest urban park in North America. This unique area is located in Toronto, combining dense forests, fields, rivers, and the rich history of the region.

Our journey began at the Mast Trail parking lot. From there, we started along the trail of the same name — Mast Trail. This is an old forest path winding among centuries-old trees. The sense of solitude here is complete: just you and nature, silence, and fresh air.

Next, we walked the Orchard Trail — a more open path with meadows stretching before us, where wildflowers bloom in summer and fall. It is a place where butterflies are often seen, and birdsongs fills the air.

The Vista Trail led us to an observation deck with a breathtaking view of the Rouge River Valley. It is a perfect spot to take a break and capture photos, especially during the golden hours before sunset.

Cedar Trail is a shady route running past marshy areas. It is especially pleasant to walk here on a hot day when the coolness and dampness create a unique atmosphere.

Finally, we completed the Beare Wetlands Loop — a circular trail around wetlands, where countless birds and aquatic plants can be observed. It is a wonderful place for nature enthusiasts and photographers.
